When using your arm to reach for an object, what factors do you consider? Which limb do you use? Do you think about the times you have successfully (and unsucessfully) completed the task? And how might that change if you suffered an injury?

What if we could write an equation for disease? What if we could treat disease as a dynamical system? Doing so would give us access to engineering theories that allow us to drive that system to a desired state. Could we then write the equation for rehabilitation?

If you had a robotic assistant in your home, how would it behave? Should it be introverted, or extroverted? Should it make eye contact with you, as a human might? Or should it have more `robotic' behavior?

The Behavior, Robotics, and Sensing Group at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, investigates relationships between human motor behavior and neurological capability. Our research is broadly focused on individuals living with chronic neurodegenerative conditions, and the extent to which engineering tools may be useful for improving their quality of life.
